Mai Chau local living tour’s itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau , Cycling

You will be collected early on the morning of your tour by your experienced English speaking tour guide who will escort you on the journey to Hoa Binh. A rest stop will be provided on the way as well as the chance to stretch your legs. We will arrive in the glorious Mai Chau Valley just in time for a delicious lunch, which you will spend with a local family.

Following a brief rest we climb onto our bikes for a delightful tour of the traditional villages in the valley. Here, learn more about the White Thai peoples who populate this beautiful valley. We will pause to rest our legs at the local family run workshop making crossbow where you can learn hands-on experience making crossbow and practise using it. You will gain further insight into the traditions and culture of Thai people by taking to your host. A brief visit to the intriguing Hoa Ban Centre will be a highlight for the creative ones in your group, where they can learn to make local handwoven products with the help of local guides

Returning to your guest house this evening with a well earned appetite you will help your hosts prepare dinner, during which you will learn about the most common ingredients used to create these delicious meals. If you wish, sample some locally made alcoholic drinks before retiring for the right in your quirky stilt house

Day 2 : Get your hand dirty in Mai Chau (B,L,D)

This morning eat a hearty breakfast with your hosts before heading out with local people to begin a good days work with the local farming community. Learn the tricks of the trade as you watch locals toil the soil, prepare seeds, harvest and reap. All the while you will enjoy the atmosphere created by the friendly locals as they sing and tell tales.

You will be hungry after your morning’s graft. After a well needed rest and some lunch you will partake in some local fishing activities and learn the traditional methods of the fishermen. Additionally, you will have a fun time learning how to take water buffalo across the field for their meal. An awesome experience and one you certainly would miss out on if you remained in Hanoi!

In the evening you will be able to relax at your accommodation or wander through the village before dinner.

Day 3: Mai Chau – Hanoi (B,L)

An early start this morning after our breakfast as we are planning to visit the bustling Mai Chau Market which will be a feast for the senses as you take in the sights and smells. Then we will make the journey to the stunning views achieved from the vantage point of the Thousand Step Cave. You will be rewarded with wonderful views over the region. There is just about time for a quick lunch with your new found friends in the village before we make the journey back to Hanoi
