Thac Ba reservoir short break 2 days from Hanoi

First day – Journey from the capital of Vietnam to Vu Linh. (Lunch, Dinner)

Your day begins bright and early as your experienced tour leader collects you at your Hanoi hotel for the journey to the fascinating Vu Linh Eco Lodge, about 100 miles from downtown Hanoi. On the way be sure to take in the sights of the rolling countryside as the city melts away into fields of flowers and workers in traditional dress.

On arrival at the eco lodge we will explore the Ngoi Tu Village and learn of the history of the local ethnic groups and cultures of this area. Your guide will provide you with a steady stream of interesting information over a feast of traditional local Vietnamese food.

Following lunch you will have the chance to take a brief rest or stretch your legs some more in the grounds before we take a journey on a little boat to tour the beautiful Thac Ba Lake on which the eco lodge is situated. You will get up close to local wildlife and witness the residents of the area going about their daily business. Along the journey your guide will tell you more about the Dzao culture while you sit back and admire the reservoir.

As the sun begins to set you will make your way back to land to the lodge where a wonderful evening meal will be served amongst other guests for an ultimate experience. Well fed and tired after the day’s activities, you are invited to your accommodation for the evening – a quaint stiltdwelling typical of the region with gorgeous views over the reservoir. Blissful.

Second day – Vu Linh back to Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch) 

You will rise gently from your slumber with the sounds of the birds and the lake. Fuel yourself for the day with a tasty traditional tea and breakfast in the lodge and perhaps take a stroll around the lakeside before heading out with your guide to the Ngoi Tu settlement. Here you will learn a bit more about the traditional practices of the Dzao before meeting some locals, including a herbalist who treats the sick with time honored tradition.

The village offers ample chance to explore and learn about traditional Dzao culture. Tour the rice paddy and visit some families in their homes, learn local recipes and make a few purchases whilst discovering how to relax in the local style. Lunch will be served in one of the traditional village homes during which you will have time to discuss all you have seen and learned on this fascinating cultural trip. Sadly it’s time to head back to Hanoi – spend the journey looking through your photos and discussing your short trip before you arrive back in the capital just in time for tea.
