Day 1: From Hanoi to Ba Be Lake

Included: Lunch, Dinner

This morning you will start early with a meeting with your tour guide before you begin the 5.5- hour journey from Hanoi to Ba Be. You will enjoy the change in the scenery from cityscape to a rural backdrop, then finally stunning mountain ranges.

On the way we stop at Thai Nguyen and spend some time taking in the Museum of Culture of Ethnic Minorities of Vietnam. You will also have the chance to get some fresh air and eat lunch in a local town on the way.

Soon we come off the main roads and turn to local tracks that wind through the countryside and tea farms – we continue in this manner until we reach Ba Be in the early evening. Home to the Tay tribe, the locals survive on agricultural and fishing. Join your host family who will welcome you like an old friend, before exploring the area.

Day 2: Hike around Ba Be National Park

Included:  Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

This option will give you the opportunity to take in the wonderful scenery that makes up the Ba Be lake area. Your tour leader will escort you firstly to the settlement of Coc Toc, home to the Tay tribe. Here, people earn their living by catching fist.

You will ford the river Pelu and hike upward for some fabulous views of the surrounding area. Your hike continues until it is time for lunch – so we stop at a hamlet of the Hmong tribe and eat outdoors.

Once rested, you will begin your next leg of the hike to an area inhabited by the Dzao tribe, followed again by some Hmong village. The day ends on return to your accommodation where you will receive a delicious meal and some much needed rest.

Day 3: Cave Explorer

Enjoy breakfast this morning before your driver arrives to take you to Lo Mo Cave. You will have plenty of time this morning to take a good look around the grotto – you’ll be kitted out with the appropriate safety gear and head lamps before you enter. Inside, the cave roof rises above you and you will be sure to snap some wonderful photos.

A river running through the cave complements the dramatic limestone rock formations created by the flow of the water. The cave itself is huge and you will encounter some interesting stalagmites and stalactites. Once you have completed your tour lunch will be served on location, before you begin the return journey back home for dinner and a good night’s rest

Day 4:  Ba Be Lake and return to Hanoi

Included: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning you will proceed after breakfast with a walk to the harbor at Bo Lu for a relaxing boat journey around the lake. You can stay on the boat and take photographs of the local flora and fauna if you wish, or jump on in to the clear water to cool off. As your boat ride continues down the River Nang you will be stunned by the beautiful scenery and mountainous backdrop, the soundtrack to which is beautiful birdsong.

A quick stop off at the cave of Puong will give you a change of scenery – look out for the bats – before you begin the journey back to Hanoi. Lunch will break up the journey, then you will arrive back at your Hanoi hotel in the late afternoon to conclude this Ba Be lake 4 days adventure
