Destinations included:
Hanoi - Ba Be - Hanoi
Included: Lunch, Dinner
This morning you will start early with a meeting with your tour guide before you begin the 7 hour journey from Hanoi to Ba Be. You will enjoy the change in the scenery from cityscape to a rural backdrop, then finally stunning mountain ranges.
On the way we stop at Thai Nguyen and spend some time taking in the Museum of Culture of Ethnic Minorities of Vietnam. You will also have the chance to get some fresh air and eat lunch in a local town on the way.
Soon we come off the main roads and turn to local tracks that wind through the countryside and tea farms – we continue in this manner until we reach Ba Be in the early evening. Home to the Tay tribe, the locals survive on agricultural and fishing. Join your host family who will welcome you like an old friend, before exploring the area.
You then have the choice of either visiting the relatively new attraction of Hua Ma Cave or taking a boat trip:
Those who decide to visit Hua Ma Cave – which is only just being discovered by tourists as tradition dictated that it should not be accessed by locals – will be rewarded with a stunning array of stalactites and stalagmites. From here you can take a wander around the settlement of Coc Toc or perhaps canoe on the lake.
This afternoon you will also pay a visit to a hamlet to see a workshop in which they make the traditional blue colored dress of the local tribe. Try your hand at weaving before taking a glass of home-made wine with a local family in their own home.
Those who decided on the boat ride will have plenty of opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery of the Ba Be area, the calming Fairy Pond and the An Ma Temple, as well as islands and waterfalls. After this ride your boat will take you back to the dock and you will enjoy a relaxed wander amongst the rice paddies and tribal villages home to the Tays. You will enjoy meeting the locals and learning about their lives if you take this option
Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Enjoy your breakfast when you rise with a local family before getting on your boat and taking an early morning ride on the lake. As you float along the lake you will catch fishermen out working on the waters. We journey onward until we get to Cam Ha settlement where you will witness the Tay working in their rice paddies. Finally we reach the Puong Cave and its hundreds of bats, before we dine on delicious fare in a restaurant near a stunning waterfall.
Once you have eaten and taken a rest we will visit the temple of An Ma and learn a little about the history and traditions surrounding the temple. Then we take a hike across the rainforests until we reach a tower – here you will pause so you can climb up and get some stunning pictures of the local area. Our walk continues along the bay of Pelam until we circle back to the Tay village of Pac Ngoi. Here, take some pictures of the local houses before we head back to our homestays in Bo Lu for a well-earned rest and a delicious dinner of local fare.
There is an option to continue to tour the lake in a canoe if you prefer. This option also includes a bicycle
Optional: For the more adventurous among us we can also explore the lake by kayak and bike. Firstly we take a leisurely bike ride over the rolling hills from where you will have a perfect vantage point over the lake. You will witness the local Tay tribe working in the fields or catching fish out on the lake. As we near the end of our bike ride we get to a harbor at Boc Lom where we board our boat. Here, you’ll get to launch out on a canoe from which you can explore the lake at your own pace on the way to the bat-filled cave at Puong.
Included: Breakfast, Lunch
This morning take a leisurely walk along the shores after your breakfast, passing through quaint hamlets. Then, we trek up a bit higher into the mountain from which we will be rewarded with some lovely views. Following this activity we will be driven to the Dog Flower Pass – here, you will definitely want to take some photos of the surrounding area. Dine-in a local restaurant before visiting a temple just before you make the onward return journey back to Hanoi. You will reach your hotel in the early evening.
