Explore the secret of Duong Lam ancient village: Day trip from Hanoi

Your tour guide meets you on the first morning in your hotel reception and will take you on a 2 hour journey to the ancient village of Duong Lam, passing spectacular scenery on the way. On arrival you will get to try your hand at local farming with a local farmer. Depending on the time of year you will be able to prepare the soil, sow crops, tidy the farm or collect the harvest.

You will learn about the standard fruit and vegetables used in traditional Vietnamese cooking, which will come in handy when you cook your lunch with a local cook.

There is the option to make the local dish – Che Lam and the special rice cake Keodoi. This is real traditional comfort food that can be prepared with your hosts. This will be sure to give you a unique oversight into local cooking as you talk to the family during the preparations.

This afternoon, choose from 2 options depending on your preference:

Option 1

Take a relaxing walk around Duong Lam village and into the back alleys to explore the ancient mud homes that make this settlement so interesting. A special treat is the Mong Phu communal building and the Mia Pagoda dating back to the 15^th century. Here, snap photos of the many statues and learn a little about the history from your tour guide

Option 2

This option involves a bicycle ride in and around the back alleys of the village. We head over to visit the temples of the kings Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung for an amazing experience. As we cycle around we can relax and take in the sights, thinking about what you have seen and learnt during your tour. Appreciate the quiet air as you prepare to head back to Hanoi’s hustle and bustle this evening.

Option 3:

Visit the local church and the Giang Van Minh house of worship and learn about the history of the land and its feudal past. Next we stop at the milking well – claimed for many miracles including conception – before we stop at the old Catholic Church to learn about Catholicism in the region and the development of the church in the area. Then we have just enough time to stop and learn how to make a straw puppet with the locals!

We head back to Hanoi after you have completed your optional tour, where we arrive in the early evening.
