Destinations included:
Hanoi city
To start, you will head west of the city with your guide to experience the colorful sights, sounds and smells of a local market early in the morning. Your senses will awaken to the comings and goings of locals as they sell their wares – anything from greenery and animals to arts and crafts such as handmade furniture and pottery.
From here, you will be in prime position to wander aimlessly through the interesting backstreets of Bah Dinh that bring you to the Huu Tiep Lake. Known also as the B52 Lake due to the crash site of a Vietnam War B52, it is a stark reminder of the history of Hanoi and the experiences of the local residents during the war.
Next, consult your map and head over to the Botanic Gardens, about a 10 minute walk away. The park is known as a haven and place to seek respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Containing several rare trees, the park is a favorite place for birds and people alike as they seek shade from the heat of the day.
Now it’s time to check out the Northern Gate Citadel. Now a world heritage site, this beautiful citadel was targeted by the French and almost completely destroyed. It’s a great place to learn more about the history of French influence and catholic religion on Hanoi. Once you’ve checked out the Citadel, spend some time drinking in the beautiful colonial architecture in the area. The avenues lined with trees make for some excellent atmospheric photographs.
All that walking will be working up an appetite so it must be time to grab a bite to eat. Decide between a sit down meal or perhaps grab a take out and do some people watching whilst you eat. Once full, it’s time to take a stroll on the Long Bien Bridge. This iconic structure straddling the Red River was designed by Gustave Eiffel and as such echoes the Eiffel tower. Once you are done, head back through the Old Quarter to your hotel, on the way keep drinking in the sights and sounds of local life in Hanoi. Concludes your Hanoi city tour walking tour and say goodbye to your guide.
