Explore Mekong delta highlights and travel off the tourist trail

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Thia – Vinh Long city – Can Tho city (Lunch)

8:00 – Start from Ho Chi Minh City.

10:30 – We arrive in Cai Thia, get on a boat to cross the river at the local boat station.

10:40 – Disembark and view a local Cai Thia church, followed by a 15 minute walk to see the beautiful, 19^th century, My Luong temple.  As we walk back, we can see the traditional brick kilns.

11:00 – Get back on the boat to cross another river.

11:05 – Disembark and visit a local family making rice paper, taste some sweet rice paper cake. This visit normally takes 15 – 30 minutes.

11:30 – Then start a nice biking tour for 30 minutes. Photo stops are available.

(For those who do not want to bike, they can go by motorbike—with a driver—for an additional fee)

12:00 – Arrive and meet another family making “banh tieu,” a delicious Vietnamese delicacy, seeing how it is made, and tasting the nice cake with green tea.

12:30 – Short ride back to the boat.

12:40 – Get back on the boat at Hoa Loc market and enjoy lunch on the boat as we cruise along the scenic Mekong River, lined with beautiful fruit orchards to Hoa Ninh Island.

14:30 – Get on small sampan and enjoy a row along the smaller Luc Cu canals and then hop off to walk through fruit tree groves to the gardens of Ut Trinh, where we will sample local cuisine and listen to some traditional Vietnamese music.

15:30 – Return to the boat and cruise to Vinh Long.

16:00 – Disembark at the Vinh Long market, walk through the market to see them selling vegetables, fish, frogs, chickens, ducks, snakes, and more.

16:30 – Transfer to Can Tho.

18:00 – Check in to hotel.

Day 2: Can Tho City – Cai Rang Floating Market – Sa Dec – Ho Chi Minh City (Breakfast)

8:00 – Check out and take a boat ride to visit the Cai Rang floating market. Visit a rice noodle production shop.

10:00 – Get off the boat at An Binh market and transfer to Sa Dec City.

12:00 – Visit the interesting Sa Dec market and the colorful old house of Huynh Thuy Le, which was featured in the famous novel L’Amant (The Lover) by Marguerite Duras.

15:00 – Transfer back to HCMC.

18:00 – Drop off at the hotel. The Mekong delta highlights and off the beaten path tour concludes.
