Exlore Mekong Off the beaten track, staying overnight in a homestay

Day 1: Chợ Gạo – Bến Tre – Vĩnh Long – Ut Trinh Homestay

Just a two-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, lies the picturesque Cho Gao distict of Tiên Giang province.

Our boat takes you across the wide branches of  Mekong river, called Cửa Đại and Cửa Tiểu, 30km from the Vietnamese Eastern Sea. Stop to visit a local factory to see many kilns making coal from coconut shell in Long Thanh village.

Back to the boat to come to Tam Hiep island. Walking and biking along small village paths will bring you to the town’s huge orchards, arriving at a special farm where they plant ‘creepers’ (called Lá Sâm) to make herbal jelly. At the farm we will learn about the creeper, taste and even make your own herbal jelly.

Back to our boat for a special lunch on board as we head to Vĩnh Long. After lunch, relax, explore and enjoy the sights as we cruise down the Mekong River.

By late afternoon, we will arrive our Út Trinh homestay. Check in, relax, cook, and enjoy our homemade meals.

Day 2: Homestay– Mỹ An – Hòa Tịnh – Long Hồ – Vĩnh Long

Have breakfast and check out before we walk through the village to enjoy the fresh air in the morning and arrive at some local workshops to see how to make rice paper, coconut candy, and pop-rice. Enjoy some of these sweets with a cup of hot tea.

Then, we head to Mỹ An canal to see many brick kilns lining both sides of the canal.  After that, we stop in Hòa Tịnh canal, to walk into town and experience Vietnamese traditional crafts of brick making and bamboo weaving for trays and baskets.

Our journey continues to the village in Long Hồ where we watch local craftmen make the iconic conical hats by hand and learn how rice noodles are made.

Last up is the lively Vinh Long market in the town. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take pictures of the fish, shrimps, prawns, crabs, snakes, rice-field rats, tropical fruits, vegetables, and other curiosities in the town and market. The cruise will end at Vinh Long city around 11:30AM.

Then you will be transferred back to Ho Chi Minh city where this Mekong off the beaten track 2 days tour concludes
