Tu Lan Cave 3 days tour : A Special outdoor Adventure

Day 1: Phong Nha  to Tu Lan via Tan Hoa and the Rat Cave

Meet your guide this early morning at your accommodation in Phong Nha at a pre-arranged time. Your transport will be waiting to take you to the settlement of Tan Hoa, about 45 miles drive from Phong Nha. You will receive some safety information and be issued with the appropriate caving gear, as well as insurance forms and paperwork which you will need to complete. Then the fun begins as we prepare for our first hike.

You will head across local farmland for about 1 ½ miles on the way to the river at Rao Nan, then take a small climb into the Rat Cave where you will be stunned with brilliant stalagmites. After you have explored over three hundred meters of cave here you will exit and enjoy a riverside picnic lunch.

After a short rest it’s time to make the one hundred fifty meter climb to Lom Com Mountain, on to Flat Rock Peak and finally to the top of Mango Mountain where you can rest before we descend to the Tu Lan Valley.

After today’s hike you will be glad for a relaxed evening – you can take a refreshing dip in the waters of the waterfall and then enjoy some campsite activities and a barbeque for the evening meal. Sleep well, for another exerting day awaits you tomorrow!

Day 2 : Ken Cave to  Tu Lan,  Hang Kim and To Mo

Rise this morning to the sound of the campsite beginning to stir and enjoy a hearty breakfast. This morning’s activities involve a swim through the Tu Lan Cave network before you end up back at the campsite for some more swimming by the waterfall and a lovely picnic lunch.

After the midday meal you will have a two hundred meter swim in the Tu Lan Cave, and on exiting you hike the 1.5 kilometer route onward to Hang Kim. Here, there’s more swimming and exploring before you emerge on the outside and head onward to the To Mo Valley and your campsite for the evening. Another fun night around the campfire awaits you as you relax following the day’s activities.

Day 3: Song Oxalis Cave

Our final day in the great outdoors starts with a hearty breakfast before you get the chance to take a look at the fabulous Song Oxalis network of caves. Then, head back to base for some light lunch and rest before you have another hike and a swim into the Hung Ton Cave. To exit, climb a 15 meter ladder right out the entrance.

This afternoon we will head back over the Rao Nan River and farmlands we experienced on the first day. On return to the base you will have some refreshments and can freshen up with a shower if you wish before we head back to Phong Nha in the early evening.

Exertion levels: Medium to High levels of activity

This tour necessitates a strong overall level of fitness with challenging terrain and swimming required during the trip.

What to bring for 3 day trip to Tu Lan cave

• Hiking boots, trousers and shirt
• Hiking socks
• Swimsuit, camera for photographs and water bottles
• Clothes to wear each evening including some comfortable shoes
• Light towel
• Toilet bag including sunscreen and other hygiene items

• This tour is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is unavailable September – November
