Rise early for your meeting with your guide who will escort you from bustling Hanoi into the mountain ranges of the Hoa Binh region. This is the tribal heartland of the Muong and Thai tribes. We stop off first at the settlement of Da Bac where we get to witness the local’s age-old Batik dyeing process that splashes interesting colors onto various fabrics. The tribe also uses the tea tree leaf to dye their hair. After lunch you will drive on to Mai Chau and stroll around a charming Thai settlement known for its beautiful tribal works of art and handicrafts. This evening you will be hosted in a local family home.

Day 2: Hmong Batik

Enjoy a traditional breakfast with your host family before you take a short one hour drive to a stunning and vibrant market. You’ll be amazed at the colors on display as the Hmong tribe dress in their traditional regalia to trade their wares. Spend some time here sourcing souvenirs for your friends and family back home.

Then, transfer to a local village where we meet our local hosts from the Hmong tribe. Here, learn more about their colorful clothing and how they create their unique textiles. You will then get to try your hand at traditional Hmong Batik – decorating your own canvas bag using tribal stencils and bee’s wax, and coloring the fabric with homemade indigo mixture.

Before we head back we stop off at a workshop to see how the Muong tribal group create their colorful textiles. Then, onward transfer to Hanoi where this excellent Mai Chau textile tour comes to an end.
